About Si Chun

Background

I live and work in the city of Coventry, a compact city of 300,000 people in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom.

I work for Coventry City Council. In my role, I help tell the story of the city’s performance, and help redesign services in order to deliver more effective and efficient services for the public.

I am originally from Discovery Bay, a town of 25,000 people situated on the north-eastern coast of Lantau Island; in the city of Hong Kong, China.

Skills

I have a wide range of skills, including:
★ web development and web design (using standards-compliant HTML5 and CSS);
★ data visualisation, graphic design and desktop publishing (using software packages such as Adobe Creative Suite — InDesign and Illustrator; and Inkscape);
★ word processing, spreadsheets and presentations (using software packages such as Microsoft Office — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; and Apple iWork);
★ photography and video production (using software packages such as Adobe Creative Suite — Photoshop and Premiere; and Apple iLife); and
★ database development and advanced data analysis (using Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel and VBA).

Interests

And now for a random spattering of information about me…

I can communicate in three languages: English, Cantonese and some Mandarin Chinese. I love music and listen to an eclectic range of music: pop, rock, alternative, R&B, hip-hop/rap and classical (perhaps with an emphasis on pop-punk); and tend to listen to one song over and over again until I had enough of it. I can play the piano and play in the Sacred Heart Folk Group. Yes I’m Christian. I think religion (or lack of) is personal and don’t appreciate people who try and force their views on others. I love to travel; experiencing different cultures and trying new food. I’m generally open-minded and up for trying out new things and meeting new people. I thrive on variety but also like to have some kind of pattern to my day. I drink too much tea and coffee which is why I don’t tend to sleep a lot. I don’t watch a great deal of television; instead, I’ll admit to spending too much time on the internet and on my iPhone. I follow most things Apple. Macs > PCs; iPhone > Android or BlackBerry; Politically I’m neutral; ideas should be backed by evidence not ideology or dogma. I believe people should be free to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn’t harm others; and if it involves others, with their informed consent. I’m idealistic but realistic, if that makes any sense.
